CREATIVE VILLAGE (Lower State Street)

Lower State Street will be transformed into a Creative Village during Celebrate New London, with more than two dozen local artists and artisans displaying their works – with some providing hands-on experiences and the opportunity to build a boat.

The Creative Village will be an extension of Cristin Rivera’s State Street shop, ‘The Annex,’ featuring a variety of local artists selling original art, apparel, accessories and more.

Additionally, leaders of the New London Arts Council, New London Cultural District, and the owners of Golden Owl, a downtown shop offering art supplies, books, teas, and hand-crafted gifts, have also contacted artisans in their networks to participate in the Creative Village.

Several artists will be painting live throughout the day, and materials will be available for attendees to paint or sew or craft an item while a DJ provides musical inspiration.

New London artist Jaylynn Claudio will offer an “Art and Creative Picnic” area on the grass under the trees along State Street, and the Golden Owl will provide books and chairs in the same area as a relaxation zone.

Ben Ellcome of New London Community Boatworks will give kids a chance to build a boat and Spark Makerspace, which provides tools and classes for a wide variety of crafts, will offer hands-on opportunities to make a memento of Celebrate New London!
