‘Celebrate New London’ to be held July 11, Featuring Food and Music Throughout Downtown, plus The Mashantucket Pequot Fireworks Extravaganza
New Festival to Highlight City Businesses as Thousands Return for the Tribe’s Annual ‘Gift to the Community’
‘Celebrate New London,’ a celebration of the food, live music, art galleries, unique shops, and waterfront that make the City a diverse, culturally rich attraction in itself, is scheduled for July 11 and will culminate with the annual Mashantucket Pequot Fireworks Extravaganza.
“This is a new approach to our annual summer festival for families, and I’m thrilled with the direction our organizers have taken,” said Mayor Michael Passero. “We’re excited to celebrate the people and entrepreneurs who make New London the region’s center for culture with its wide variety of authentic menus, and eclectic mix of music, art, and historic attractions.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to once again bring this amazing event to New London and the vibrant communities of southeastern Connecticut,” said Rodney Butler, Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. “For more than 30 years, The Mashantucket Pequot Fireworks Extravaganza has been a cherished family tradition, and the highlight of the summer for the thousands of visitors who come together to celebrate, connect, and create unforgettable memories. It’s an honor and a joy to be part of something that means so much to so many.”
The Mashantucket Pequot Fireworks Extravaganza
The marquis event for Celebrate New London is the 44th annual Mashantucket Pequot Fireworks Extravaganza sponsored by Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. One of the largest fireworks events in New England, this spectacular event is a unique audio-visual tradition where fireworks are choreographed to music on 97.7 WCTY.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, owners of Foxwoods Resort Casino, make this annual event possible. They generously donate this program as their gift to the Connecticut community. In past years, attendance estimates have exceeded 300,000 patrons.
Entertainment
Celebrate New London will feature multiple stages at locations including Custom House Pier and Parade Plaza showcasing local musicians performing reggae, blues, salsa, rock, folk, ska and more all day and into the night. The New London Folk Fest will make its debut at the Hygienic Art Park. All performances are free and open to all.
Food trucks will be at locations throughout the festival and our downtown restaurants will be open for business. Alcohol will not be served outdoors; no open alcohol is permitted.
